It\u2019s currently estimated that about three billion people will live without access to adequate shelter by 2050.\u00a0<\/span>In places such as<\/span>\u00a0Ahuachap\u00e1n, El Salvador,<\/span>\u00a0the location of our sponsored communities,<\/span> many families live in dangerous conditions without clean water and sanitation. According to New Story, only 7% of families previously reported having access to clean water. Many of the residents residing in <\/span>these\u00a0<\/span>impoverished\u00a0<\/span>conditions\u00a0<\/span>make shelters using rusty sheet metal, plastic tarps, and garbage bags. Together we can help improve the quality of their lives.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Building a<\/span><\/b>\u00a0new life:<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A home is the foundation every family needs to thrive<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>The homes\u00a0<\/span>built\u00a0<\/span>provide safety and shelter<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and are wired for electricity, running water, and plumbing<\/span>\u00a0allowing the<\/span>\u00a0families\u00a0<\/span>who inhabit\u00a0them\u00a0<\/span>to\u00a0<\/span>spend time working and learning rather than struggling to obtain things needed to survive. The homes are\u00a0<\/span>even\u00a0<\/span>eco-friendly, and the families gain a backyard suitable for gardening\u00a0<\/span>and growing<\/span>\u00a0their own food.\u00a0<\/span>The funds raised through our partnership are allocated to build communities that invest in the local economy, and the labor and building materials are all sourced directly from Ahuachap\u00e1n<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The impact<\/span><\/b>:<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Two of our<\/span>\u00a0communit<\/span>ies in the\u00a0<\/span>Nuevo Cuscatl\u00e1n area ha<\/span>ve<\/span>\u00a0seen drastic improvement<\/span>s<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>Between 40-45% of the people in these\u00a0<\/span>program<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0were children<\/span>\u00a0who now have<\/span>\u00a0a roof over their heads, a floor under their feet, and a place to feel\u00a0<\/span>safe.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>About 60%<\/span>\u00a0previously had dirt or soil floors, now have concrete, and everyone<\/span>\u00a0now<\/span>\u00a0has access to clean drinking water\u2013which<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>significantly\u00a0<\/span>improved health conditions<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>These families have\u00a0<\/span>reported feeling safer<\/span>\u00a0and<\/span>\u00a0improved sleep quality,\u00a0<\/span>due to\u00a0<\/span>better living conditions.\u00a0<\/span>Salaried employment has also increased. According to New Story, in the Ahuachapan 2 community, salaried\u00a0employment increased by 26% over the course of two years, and 14% more families started earning their primary income through small businesses and small-scale commerce.
