Shopping for patio furniture is fun for some, and stressful for others. Most people assume that shopping for patio furniture is just like shopping for new fixtures inside of your home. This is partially true, but there are some very important things to consider when dealing with the outdoors.\u00a0 Here are my 3 items that I take with me whenever I go patio shopping<\/p>\n

1. A Magnet<\/strong>
\nThere are more amazing pieces and sets available today then ever before because we all want outdoor rooms. Unfortunately, most of our outdoor rooms get wet. Knowing what your furniture is made of will help you take care of it for years to come. This is where the magnet comes in. Place your magnet on the exposed metal, even on the metal under the wicker style weave. If the magnet doesn\u2019t stick, this is an aluminum set, perfect for handling almost any outdoor weather conditions. If the magnet sticks, then this is either a steel or iron set. These patio pieces are a great \u00a0 economical option for most homeowners however, if you don\u2019t protect them, they will rust in heavy rain. Make sure you purchase proper covers to ensure the longevity of your set.<\/p>\n

2. A Tape Measure\u00a0<\/strong>
\nToo often, homeowners purchase a set and then realize that it won\u2019t fit in their space. Make sure that you\u2019ve measured the entire available area at home before you leave for the store. I like to start my shopping at locations that offer a wide variety of patio options because I love to see what else is available in the complimentary accessories and pieces. I always find one extra \u2018must-have\u2019 and by knowing the size of my space, I know what will fit and what won\u2019t!<\/p>\n

3. A Friend<\/strong>
\nWhile a second opinion is always a good thing, bringing a friend patio shopping has another practical application. Have your shopping buddy sit opposite to you at the ends of the table. Measure how far away the chairs actually are when you are both sitting comfortably. Then both of you stand up at the same time and measure how far apart the chairs are once you\u2019ve stood up. You might be surprised, but you\u2019ve probably added several feet to the amount of patio space your furniture really needs. There is nothing worse than having a great set, and not being able to easily use it.<\/p>\n

I want you to have a backyard that you will love all summer long. Choosing the right furniture will help make that happen. Even if you don\u2019t get it right the first time, make sure you deal with a reputable company, so that you can always get expert advice on what will work best for you!<\/p>\n
